We Love the Weekends!

Somehow I have landed a job as a housewife. I've been doing a fantastic job, actually, and am beginning to wonder weather I'm crosing my fingers for a job or crossing my fingers that no one calls me back. I'm still in the process for looking - don't get me wrong - but I've come to the conclusion that I can be very happy here at home. Now...if only I could figure out a way to get paid to stay at home...that's the tricky part.

One day last week I found myself becoming an Army Wife. After making almost 9 dozen of these for SERE students I made a USAF one for Zachariah's lunch.

That brings me to another thing I've been kinda trying/kinda not trying. Zachariah is in a class of 4 students. Two of them are named Zach/Zack. So, I'm trying out scrapping the whole "Zack" thing and just doing the "Zachariah" thing like most everyone else in Alabama is doing. It's hard. Sometimes all those extra syllables just don't want to come out.

This weekend we did our favorite thing to do, visit Jer, Abby, and the kids. Saturday morning was filled with basketball and cheerleading (oh, and a ton of laughs!) It was by far the most entertaining thing we've ever done on a Saturday monring!

Sunday was filled with housework. You'd think having a housewife would negate the need to spend a weekend day on the house, but nonetheless we had a garage to organize, a car to wash, and stuff to buy. It was such a nice day outside Zachariah got his first sunburn of the year! Our Lowe's trip included purchases for both indoor and outdoor fires. We got the things we needed to get our gas fireplace going and then got a firepit for the yard. We enjoyed hot chocolate around the fire last night.

Happy Birthday, Hazel

Happy first birthday, Hazel!

For the last six months Hazel has been such a joy and perfect addition to our family. She is a lover, a protector, and a mama's girl. She is so friendly and fits in with everyone. She is constantly by my side no matter where I go. She can run faster than most the big dogs and holds her own against them. She loves to play with everyone and everything. We love our white ball of fluff.

Happy Birthday, Hadley

Today Hadley turns one! Our puppy is growing so quickly. It's been a fun year as parents to our fur-baby. Somehow we have managed to raise a very smart, princess of a dog with way too much attitude...but we love her.

Some things about Hadley...
She has so much priss in such a small body, but she makes us laugh everyday.
She is definitely the boss around the house and keeps her sister in line.
She loves to snuggle because she's always cold.
She is quite the traveler and has managed to go to 18 states in 12 months.

Country Living

Yes, I consider our house as "in the country." Those that are from the country would laugh at this statement. Heck, people who live in towns would laugh at this statement. But citygirls like me would have to agree.

You know you live in the country when...

Gunshots don't make you jump
You can always hear roosters in the distance
Picking up after your dogs rarely never happens
You frequently pass your house because there aren't any street lights and you don't see it
When you ask your husband to go to the store to pick up an ingredient you forgot, he just looks at you like you're insane to suggest a 30 minute round trip to the commissary
Oh, and you pour buttermilk down your toilet

These are just some of the things I've been noticing since we moved out here. It has been an adjustment, but for the better. I'm more organized with my shopping, at least. I know we're not truly "country living" but I told Zack if you're on a septic tank you live in the country.
And I'm sticking to that.

Florida Friends

This weekend we visited Dane and Angela in Pensacola. We love having friends nearby, espeically those that live in such fabulous places! Pensacola was beautiful. We are so lucky to live so close to the beautiful beaches of the gulf to enjoy our warm January days. Best parts of the weekend: catch-up conversation, yummy seafood, checking out the fort, and, of course, the beach. Thanks to Angela and Dane for hosting us and touring us around.

are we there yet?

Sweet Home Alabama

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas we managed to move to Alabama. It was a busy way to end 2012. Thank goodness for friends who helped make it possible! Thank you so much Melissa and Michaela for all you did-we couldn't have done it without you.

We packed, cleaned, and said goodbye to our friends. Then, we hit the road excited for all the unknowns of what awaited us in Alabama. We had signed a lease for a house that we had only seen pictures of online, so we were eager to see our house, neighborhood, and base in person.

Although Zack has visited several times before, I had never been to Alabama and did not know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I absolutely love it here. I'm pretty sure that God had us live in Enid just so that we would genuinely appreciate everywhere else we get to live.

Our house is great. It's starting to finally look like our home, too. We were able to unpack the whole house before we packed up to leave for Christmas. All that's left is some decorating and organizing the garage. Pictures to come once it's done!

The base is pretty awesome, too. We like all it has to offer and haven't even had time to check out most of it yet. There are lakes, trails, trees...it's beautiful.

We live in a tiny town, but we're used to that now. We're close to "civilization" and close to the beach, so we're happy campers. First trip to the beach is coming up this weekend. Can't wait!

Oh, and the absolute best part of living in Alabama.... being close to Jer & Abby's family.
